| From Maun, the old frontier's town, we fly to Khwai River Lodge. Morning and afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles give us an opportunity to observe lion, wild dogs, elephant and buffalo at close range, whilst hippos graze and snort in the river in front of our air-conditioned tents. | |
| Onto Eagle Island in the middle of the Okavango Delta, where we spend most of our time in the traditional "mokoro", a dug-out canoe poled through the crystal clear waters of the Okavango by a competent and knowledgeable guide. From here our pilot takes us to Savuti Camp, famous for its elephant, lions and hyenas. At certain times of the year the gnus and zebra migrate through the Savuti Channel in search of fresh grazing and offer a unique spectacle. |  |
| Then our final leg takes us to the Makgadikgadi Saltpans, which many eons ago formed one of the biggest lake systems in the world before a shift in the earth's crust changed the course of the river which fed them.
